We are seeking a Preconstruction & Estimating Engineer to streamline our clients estimating, permitting, and preconstruction design processes. This role will support their construction operations while ensuring projects are well-prepared before breaking ground. The ideal candidate has an architectural, civil engineering, or structural engineering background with experience in estimating and permitting. This position is critical to reducing workload bottlenecks and allowing their leadership to focus on business development and growth.
Responsibilities
Estimating
- Conduct high-level preliminary estimates (cost per square foot basis) to align with customer expectations early in the process.
- Perform quantity surveying and cost breakdowns.
- Obtain bids from subcontractors and material quotes.
- Assemble complete project budgets, ensuring no scope gaps.
Drafting & Preconstruction Design
- Create CAD and Revit drawings.
- Incorporate energy code compliance details into plans.
Develop and refine:
- Site plans (including environmental factors like stormwater and grading analysis as needed).
- Foundation plans.
- Floor plans.
- Framing details.
- Sectional drawings and elevations.
- 3D renderings (Lumion experience preferred but not required).
Permitting
- Navigate city and county permitting requirements.
- Research and understand project-specific permitting needs.
- Communicate with permitting authorities to clarify requirements.
- Ensure all necessary documentation is prepared and submitted per jurisdictional checklists.
Energy Code Compliance
- Incorporate energy code credit requirements into plans.
- Complete and manage paperwork related to energy code compliance.
- Follow standardized construction energy credit selection processes.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist in organizing historical project drawings and documents when workload allows.
- Support business process improvements to streamline estimating and permitting workflows.
Requirements
- Fluency in English
- Background in architecture, civil engineering, or structural engineering.
- Experience in residential construction estimating, drafting, and permitting.
- Proficiency in CAD and Revit (or willingness to learn Revit).
- Familiarity with residential construction energy efficiency requirements.
