As a Senior SAS/RTU Engineer at Hitachi Energy, based in Cairo, Egypt, you will be responsible for overseeing the installation and commissioning of RTU and Substation Automation Systems for assignments classified as medium to high commissioning complexity. Your role will involve managing the completion of all commissioning activities efficiently and cost-effectively, ensuring compliance with contract specifications, quality standards, and, most importantly, adhering to safety requirements.
How you’ll make an impact
- Drive service sales and business development activities across assigned countries and market
segments (e.g., Utilities, Power Generation, Oil & Gas, EPCs, Industrial clients). - Ensure the safe execution of installation supervision and system commissioning in compliance with Hitachi Energy’s safety standards and those of the customer. Report any hazards or misses at the work location to the office for record-keeping and further improvement.
- Assist the engineering team by performing engineering tasks under the guidance of lead engineers during idle commissioning periods.
- Conduct commissioning activities according to the documented process descriptions and checklists
- Maintain continuous communication with the engineering and project management teams to effectively carry out site work.
- Report site progress and plans, ensuring the efficient use of commissioning assets.
- Initiate and monitor risk mitigation plans within your area of responsibility, keeping stakeholders informed about associated technical risks.
- Prepare project documentation for Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) as required. Obtain approvals from utilities for commissioning activities of RTU and SAS systems, including scheme testing.
- Act as the first point of contact for any interference, providing problem-solving support in close cooperation with customers, project managers, and lead engineers.

Your background
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in commissioning SAS/RTU systems, with additional knowledge in protection and control systems commissioning being advantageous.
- In-depth understanding of RTU and substation automation systems, including their principles, applications, and concepts.
- Proficiency in communication protocols and network topology, including IEC61850, IEC-101, IEC-104, IEC-103, DNP3, and Modbus. Knowledge of protection and control systems is a plus.
- Extensive experience with Hitachi Energy software, such as MicroSCADA, PCM600, and RTUtil.
- Independent and reliable personality, capable of operating effectively under challenging circumstances.
- Willingness to undertake missions across Egypt and other African countries (up to 90% of the time), representing Hitachi Energy proficiently.
- Proven skills in technical report generation, communication, and customer interface, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks.
- Possesses an analytical and strategic approach.
