As a Senior Design Engineer at Siemens Energy, you will lead the design and development of secondary engineering systems for high and medium voltage substations, working on impactful brownfield projects that enhance electrification and reliability. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, guiding junior engineers while ensuring compliance with industry standards and optimizing system performance. Each day, you will engage in hands-on problem-solving, conduct detailed engineering studies, and contribute to the successful commissioning of critical infrastructure that supports our clients and partners in achieving their energy goals.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Lead the design of secondary engineering systems for HV/MV substations, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Design protection schemes and secondary systems, prioritizing reliability and performance.
- Perform MV and LV cable sizing calculations and relay settings for various vendors (Siemens, GE, ABB, etc.).
- Conduct engineering studies, including short circuit calculations, load flow analysis, and equipment sizing.
- Prepare secondary BOQs, review supplier offers, and analyze tender requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for seamless integration of systems and prepare necessary technical documentation.
- Review and approve designs from junior engineers, providing mentorship and fostering professional development.
- Offer hands-on technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Stay updated on industry trends and ensure effective communication within the team and with stakeholders.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field; Master’s preferred.
- 12+ years of experience in secondary engineering for HV/MV substations, focusing on brownfield projects and electrification.
- Hands-on experience with engineering systems and equipment.
- Strong knowledge of electrical protection systems and coordination studies.
- Proficient in design software (ETAP, AutoCAD, ALCAD, E-base, PV design software, etc.).
- Familiar with industry standards (IEEE, IEC, ANSI) and regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for presenting technical information.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification is a plus.
