Job Summary

The British Council enjoys a strong reputation in Egypt as the leading provider of English language courses. Egypt plays a major role in the British Council’s English Language Teaching (ELT) work across the whole Arabic-speaking region. There are excellent opportunities for further development in various directions. The centres run CELTA, distance DELTA, TYLEC, and various management and general training courses. Financial support is available on most courses for suitable candidates. For more experienced teachers there is a supported environment to enter into teacher training opportunities. A mix of adult and young learner courses are taught in all the branches. All full-time teachers are expected to teach both adults and young learners as part of their teaching hours which may require them to teach over the weekend and on Saturday evening

Role Purpose:

The goal is to promote and maintain high-quality teaching standards while ensuring effective English language learning for students. By creating a stimulating and rewarding learning experience, educators can engage learners, enhance their skills, and foster a supportive environment that encourages language development and confidence in communication.

Role Accountabilities:

Teachers are responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering 25 hours of English instruction each week, ensuring lessons are tailored to diverse customer groups and accommodate various learning styles. They continuously monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and encourage learner autonomy to support effective language development.

Collaboration with the teaching team is key in developing, evaluating, and refining English courses and materials. Additionally, teachers engage in ongoing professional development to uphold high teaching standards and promote best practices in English Language Teaching (ELT) as part of the British Council.

Safeguarding policies and guidelines must be strictly applied and maintained across critical areas, including child protection, equality and diversity, anti-bribery measures, information management, and health and safety. By adhering to these standards, teachers ensure a secure and ethical learning environment for all students.
